The Greater Atlanta Coin Show encourages learning, discussion, and the sharing of knowledge about numismatics and history. The show offers a place where you can enjoy viewing the displays and engaging in conversations with fellow enthusiasts and experts.

The Greater Atlanta Coin Show is a fun event for those interested in coins, currency, bullion, and related collectibles. With its wide variety of dealers and opportunities for buying, selling, and trading, the show is a great place to connect with others who share an interest in numismatics as well as history.

After 15 years at the Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center, the show has moved to a new and larger location at the IAM Union Hall. The location is about 2 miles from the old location and 2 miles closer to I-75. Look for “Local Lodge 709” on the union hall’s street sign.

Paper Shredding

Protect against identity theft by having documents shredded securely on-site by a licensed, bonded and locally-owned shredding company. Medical bills, bank and credit card statements, checks, and documents that contain PERSONAL OR SENSITIVE information is ideal for this event. Please remove all paper clips/binder clips. Staples are ok.

2026 Marietta Chalktoberfest

Marietta Chalktoberfest is a festival that combines the vibrancy of a chalk art festival with the rich flavors of a craft beer and wine festival. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Marietta Square, this event showcases over 80 professional chalk artists who bring the streets to life with their creativity.

On Saturday from noon to 5 pm, attendees have the option of purchasing tickets and sampling tastes from 40 different breweries, with a selection that includes over 120 craft beers and more than 25 wine varieties.

In addition, the festival provides a dedicated area for children’s crafts and games, a chalk art competition for different age groups, and a series of live concerts.

Chalktoberfest is a fundraiser for the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art and part of their mission of building community through art.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Each October, cities around the world see an influx of the color pink: pink ribbons, pink T-shirts and pink bumper stickers urging you to “Save the Ta-tas.” As Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off on Oct. 1, breast cancer charities big and small put their efforts into overdrive to increase awareness and raise money for a cure for the second leading cause of death among women. Knowing the details about breast cancer and how to detect abnormalities won’t prevent women from developing the disease, but knowing what you’re up against might just save your life.

Although incidence rates have been decreasing since 2000, one in eight women will still develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. “Having an immediate family member (sister, mother or daughter) who has been diagnosed nearly doubles a woman’s chances of developing the disease,” says Elissa McCrary with the American Cancer Society’s local office. “About 20 to 30 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history.”

Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer among women after skin cancer. While there is no definitive way to prevent cancer, women can decrease their risk by maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, not smoking and limiting their alcohol consumption.

If you are diagnosed with cancer, early detection is key to successful treatment. Women over 30 should be performing self-exams about once per month—in addition to yearly mammograms—to identify any changes or abnormalities in the appearance and feel of breast and nipple tissue. Not all lumps or bumps are going to be cancerous, but it’s always best to have them examined by a healthcare professional just in case. The good news is that more women are beating breast cancer than ever before. “Breast cancer death rates decreased by 34 percent between 1990 and 2010, which is the most recent year for which data is available,” McCrary says. “In that time frame, more than 203,000 deaths have been prevented.” These increasing survival rates are largely attributed to early detection, increased awareness and more advanced treatment options.

Those looking to donate to the cause have an abundance of choices. The American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, National Breast Cancer Foundation and many others accept donations, in addition to events like the Marietta-based Making Strides Walk that raises awareness through an activity. You can also purchase items through programs like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s “Shop Pink,” where proceeds from every purchase fund cancer research.

Breast cancer isn’t as prevalent in men, and oftentimes gets overlooked in comparison to breast cancer in women. Many awareness groups, like “Out of the Shadow of Pink,” have been working for years to officially establish the third week of October as Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week, so be sure to show support for men that week.

Sprayberry Trunk or Treat takes place at Sprayberry High School and features entertainment, food, and fun. The evening event includes festival food, a huge kid’s zone, some spooky exhibits, live local entertainment, fun costume contests, and plenty of candy. Activities take place ~~on the Sprayberry stadium field in a fun and safe environment~~. Due to rain in the forecast, this event has been moved inside Sprayberry High School.

In years past, metro Atlanta shoppers could plan on getting an early start on their Holiday gift giving at the Annual Mistletoe Market hosted by the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta (JLCM). The JLCM’s Mistletoe Market was a shopping event that was held at the Cobb County Civic Center located at 548 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta, Georgia. Shoppers could purchase holiday gifts from booths offering clothing, candles, specialty food items, art, home decor and much more.

More than 50 merchants from across the Southeast offered a premiere holiday shopping experience that featured locally created, premium goods including the latest trends in apparel, jewelry, children’s clothing and gifts, home and garden accents, gourmet food products and culinary treats, specialty gift items, and holiday apparel and accessories.

As the largest fundraiser for the JCLM, Mistletoe Market was a wonderful opportunity to shop for high quality items while helping fund community projects supported by the JLCM. Each year, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta’s financial impact was more than $200,000 through annual grants and volunteer hours being given to various community projects and agencies in Cobb County including Cobb County Safety Village, The Center for Family Resources, SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, The Center for Children and Young Adults, Communities in Schools, Omosaze, Inc., and the Cobb County Youth Museum.

2023 Premiere Night was held Thursday, November 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A festive night with your friends and family and offered the opportunity to be the first to shop the 2023 merchants, enjoy light bites, beverages, and entertainment. About the Mistletoe Market:
First held in 1991, the annual Mistletoe Market ran each fall for the next 24 years. In 2015, the Cobb County Civic Center began a year-long renovation project, and the Mistletoe Market was canceled for 2015. The hiatus continued in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The market returned for its 25th year in November of 2019, and was again canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. The market returns for its 26th year in 2022.

Noshfest

Noshfest last took place September 4-5, 2022 at Temple Kol Emeth in Marietta after a two year break. Noshfest – a taste of Jewish food and fun (formerly Nibble & Noshfest) was a two day event blending food, fun, culture, and entertainment in a welcoming atmosphere. The event featured Jewish food sold in sample sized portions priced from $1 to $5. The event also included children’s activities, craft vendors and live entertainment.

There were many events for children, including a kid’s zone complete with inflatables, games and face painting. There was dancing and live music throughout both days. Enjoy special entertainment with bands and DJ music.

Free. Patrons were encouraged to bring two canned foods per family to be donated to MUST; visitors purchased tickets to pay for the food samples that range from $1 – $5.
