Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour

The annual Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour, held the first full weekend in December, showcases a variety of historic homes in Marietta.

The Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour features five private historic homes, lovingly restored, filled with antique collections and decorated for the season.  Homeowners invite you inside for a unique opportunity to discover how they incorporate these historic treasures into their everyday lives.  Along the route, many of Marietta’s historic buildings, churches, and museums are decorated and included in the tour.

This year, get a glimpse inside five private homes located in the Kennesaw Avenue Neighborhood. Each home has been lovingly restored and will be decorated for the holiday season.

Schedule:

  • December 5, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm
  • December 6, 2025 from 9 am to 4 pm
  • December 7, 2025 from 9 am to 4 pm

2025 Tour Homes:

The 2025 Marietta Tour of Homes features five beautifully preserved and restored residences that showcase the city’s architectural heritage and evolving character.

Gignilliat-Griffin-Gilbert House (c. 1840)
One of Marietta’s oldest homes, this Gothic Revival cottage gained its elegant design during an 1880s remodel that added Romanesque marble mantelpieces and intricate medallions. Current owners Melissa and Parker Gilbert have cared for the home since 1998.

Turnbull Manor (1883)
Built for the Brumby family, this Victorian residence sits along historic Kennesaw Avenue, once called “the Peachtree Street of Marietta.” The home retains its heart pine floors, eight fireplaces, and ornate millwork, complemented by antique furnishings collected by current owners Robin and Jim Trimble.

Harris-Fenton-Myrick House (1923)
Originally a bungalow that may have served mill workers or a local doctor, this home still carries marks of a past fire. The Myrick family has restored it with modern updates, a new bedroom suite, and bright, cheerful interiors that honor its early cottage charm.

Buttolph House (1886)
Gifted to Reverend Dr. David Buttolph upon his retirement from First Presbyterian Church, this home underwent a careful 2023 restoration that revived its original siding, 12-foot plaster ceilings, and six fireplaces hidden for decades.

Harrison-Hines House (1885)
Once a two-story Victorian, this residence was redesigned after a 1930s fire into a Colonial-style home by architect Montgomery Anderson. It has remained a Marietta landmark since the late Justice Harris Hines and his wife Helen purchased it in 1975, preserving the heart pine floors and grand central hall.

Spring Restaurant Joins the Elite Ranks with a Michelin Star

The 2024 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Atlanta has officially landed, and food enthusiasts have another reason to celebrate! Spring, a charming Marietta Square restaurant, has been honored with its very first MICHELIN star. This is no small feat, highlighting the exceptional culinary experience that Spring has to offer.

What Makes a MICHELIN Star So Special?

For anyone who loves food, the MICHELIN star is kind of like the Oscar of the culinary world. It’s a symbol of excellence, a mark that says, “Hey, this place is worth the trip!” MICHELIN’s anonymous inspectors evaluate restaurants based on product quality, cooking techniques, harmony of flavors, the chef’s personality as reflected in the cuisine, and consistency. Earning even a single star is a huge deal, signifying a level of precision and artistry that only a handful of establishments manage to achieve.

Spring: Where Seasonal Magic Happens

Spring, a small but beautifully designed restaurant in the heart of Marietta, has captured the attention of MICHELIN’s notoriously picky inspectors. With its exposed brick walls and vaulted ceiling adorned in rich dark wood, the space offers a cozy yet refined atmosphere. Chef Brian So leads the kitchen with an approach that places emphasis on the seasons, serving up contemporary American dishes that are skillfully executed without being overly showy.

Chef So’s menu is a tight, thoughtful selection, focusing on making the most of top-quality ingredients. The wine list at Spring is also certainly worth noting. From full-bodied reds to crisp whites, the selection is tailored to complement the seasonal dishes and elevate the overall dining experience. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a very fancy adult, but without any of the pretension—just good food, good wine, and a great time.

A Win for Marietta and Metro Atlanta

Spring’s recognition is part of a larger culinary celebration for Atlanta, with three other restaurants—O by Brush, Omakase Table, and Staplehouse—also receiving their first MICHELIN stars this year. It’s safe to say that metro Atlanta is firmly on the map when it comes to fine dining, and Spring is leading the way for Marietta in particular.

As the MICHELIN Guide continues its journey through Atlanta for the second year, it’s clear that the local food scene is bursting with talent and passion. With Spring’s well-deserved accolade, Marietta officially has a shining star of its own, one that’s sure to make food lovers take notice.

From the MICHELIN guide:

Spring (Contemporary cuisine)

“Find your way to this small but well-appointed restaurant in Marietta where exposed brick and a vaulted ceiling done in dark wood create an endearing charm. Chef Brian So oversees a tightly edited, contemporary American menu with a strong focus on seasonality. Skillful but simple cooking is the dictum here, where ingredients speak for themselves, and plates are stunning without ever being showy. The house-made sourdough with garlic chive butter is delicious, but don’t fill up, as the pan-seared wild king salmon topped with Hollandaise sauce and trout roe is equally appealing. A maple-glazed cruller with sliced almonds in an amaretto crème anglaise is a bold and distinctive dessert, and the wine list is especially impressive.

Digital Learning Days

Cobb County School District Digital Learning Days: What to Expect

The Cobb County School District (CCSD) has embraced a new approach to education with the integration of Digital Learning Days, or asynchronous learning days, for the 2025-2026 school year. These designated days are aimed at enhancing the professional development of teachers while ensuring students continue their education seamlessly from home. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect and how to navigate these days effectively.

Digital Learning Dates

The following dates are designated as Digital Learning Days for the upcoming school year:

  • August 18, 2025 – digital learning day
  • October 13, 2025 – digital learning day
  • December 2, 2025 – digital learning day
  • March 2, 2026 – digital learning day

Overview of Digital Learning Days

On these days, students will engage in learning from home through the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS). The format will be asynchronous, meaning students will complete tasks independently rather than participating in live, face-to-face instruction. Here’s a snapshot of what to expect:

  • Independent Work: Students will work on assignments created by their teachers, which will be accessible via CTLS.
  • Pre-Assigned Tasks: Teachers will provide instructions and expectations the day before the Digital Learning Day.
  • Varied Instructional Materials: Assignments may include pre-recorded videos, independent activities, or review lessons.

Daily Assignment Expectations

For Grades K-5 and Special Education Units:

  • Reading
  • Math
  • Specials (as directed by the teacher)

Elementary students should anticipate 1-2 hours of work per day, tailored to their specific learning targets.

For Middle and High School Students:

  • Students will receive 30-minute assignments for each subject.
  • Tasks might involve watching pre-recorded videos, reviewing articles, or answering reflection questions.

Tips for Success

  • Access to CTLS: Ensure your student has access to the CTLS platform.
  • Preparation: Elementary students should be ready for 1-2 hours of work, while older students should manage their time to complete the 30-minute assignments for each class.

Specials Schedule

Specials teachers will post optional activities in their digital classrooms. Students are encouraged to log in and engage with these activities.

Target Program

Students scheduled for the Target program should check their Target teacher’s CTLS class for assignments.

Connectivity Issues?

  • Communication: If there are any issues accessing assignments, contact your child’s teacher.
  • Hard Copies: Request physical copies of assignments if needed, and students will have time to complete their work upon returning to school.
  • Deadlines: Teachers will inform students of deadlines for any outstanding assignments.

CTLS Support

For any issues or questions regarding CTLS, the following resources are available:

The incorporation of Digital Learning Days in the Cobb County School District aims to balance the needs of professional development for teachers with the continuity of education for students. By planning ahead and utilizing the resources available, families can ensure a smooth transition to these new learning days.
