State of the City

A Silent Birthday Song: The General

In celebration of The Strand’s first birthday. Relive a piece of Marietta’s history about a famous locomotive chase that started in Marietta. The 1926 flick, The General, is a comedic masterpiece starring Buster Keaton and featuring live organ accompaniment on The Strand’s Mighty Theatre Organ by Ron Carter. Other entertainment will include the Little General Cloggers, Harper Harris, lead interpreter from the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, and Russell Bonds, author of Stealing the General. Tickets are $7-8 and are available through The Strand’s box office. Tickets which were purchased for the January showing are still good and assigned seating will remain the same.

Marietta Easter Egg Hunt

Marietta Easter Egg Hunt

The 2010 Marietta Easter Egg Hunt at Jim Miller Park begins at 10am on March 27, 2010. The Egg Hunt features children’s art, activities, carnival rides, music, inflatables, petting zoo, concessions, and more. You can also visit with the Easter Bunny and participate in the Mad Hatter contest. The Easter eggstravaganza Easter egg hunt features different levels based on age groups with prizes at each level.

The 2010 Easter Egg Hunt at Laurel Park begins at 6:30pm on Friday, March 26. The event is sponsored by the Marietta Parks and Recreation Department and features plenty of great candy and fun prizes for all. The hunt is divided into groups based on age, and after the hunt you can visit with the Easter Bunny for great photo opportunities.

Hearts for Heroes

Hearts for Heroes, a night to celebrate and honor our local aviation vision and military, will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Historic Strand Theatre. The event will support the Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History and be co-hosted by former Gov. Roy Barnes and Chairman Sam Olens.

Special guests include Admiral Jim Ellis, Maj. Gen. Terry Nesbitt and actors Dennis Haysbert and Eric L. Haney. Live music will be provided by Memory Lane Jazz Band, Vintage Vocals and Katie Kasben.

Hours
Doors open at 6 p.m. for an aviation art show and the main event begins at 7 p.m.

$30

There will also be an after party immediately following the event at the Gov. and Mrs. Barnes’ home. Tickets are $100.
