Cobb Children’s Theatre “Les Mes” Student Edition

Broadway’s legendary musical has been specially adapted to meet the needs of young performers. This author-approved edition has been abridged to a running time of just over two hours, while carefully maintaining the integrity of one the greatest musicals ever written.

This epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes and honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father – violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him.

Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter, does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.

Cobb Company Cats

In an on-going effort to find homes for Cobb County’s homeless animals, Cobb County Animal Control recently introduced their new Cobb Company Cats program. Local businesses who want to have a furry friend with them while they work will be able to adopt an adult cat (over 1 year of age) with no fee.

“We are looking for new options in placing our homeless animals” said Captain Jeff Patellis, Director of Cobb County Animal Control. “There are people out there who want to help solve the pet overpopulation problem but don’t have room in their homes for another animal. This new program gives them the chance to help a homeless cat, where they might otherwise not be able to, by having the cat live at their business. And having a resident cat at your business can be very appealing to customers. The program is aimed at ‘Mom and Pop’ businesses, but if larger businesses think it would work for them, we would be open to that as well. We think it’s a win-win situation for both animal and human.”

All cats available for adoption are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, current on all vaccinations, and have been combo tested. To adopt under the Cobb Company Cats Program, you must have a current Cobb County business license for a ‘brick and mortar’ business.

Walmart Neighborhood Market opening in Marietta

A new 41,403 square foot grocery-only store has been approved for construction at 1137 Powder Springs Road. The location will be one of the first Walmart Neighborhood Markets in Georgia and is expected to create 80 to 100 jobs. The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will be built within the existing Bellemeade Shopping Center, replacing the Food Depot which closed earlier this year.

“We are very pleased to see this new investment in our city and expect it to positively impact the economy of the area,” said city manager Bill Bruton. “We’re hopeful the store will generate other new businesses nearby. Also, the appearance of the building and landscaping will blend well with the streetscape enhancements the city has made on Powder Springs Street.”

The store is scheduled to open as early as 2012.

Here are some pictures to show what the new Marietta WalMart grocery store might look like when it opens in 2012:
