Plans for Ted’s Montana Grill to fill the long-vacant lot on Marietta Square are no longer moving forward. According to reporting by the Marietta Daily Journal, the restaurant group has decided to cancel the project after previously receiving approval from the Marietta Historic Board of Review.

The proposed restaurant was slated for 77 North Park Square, a property often referred to locally as the “Goldstein Gap.” The site has remained undeveloped since the former Cuthbertson building was demolished in 2010, with several redevelopment proposals failing to materialize over the years. Ted’s Montana Grill had planned a single-story building designed to match the architectural scale of the Square, with construction projected to finish in 2027.

George McKerrow, co-founder and chief executive officer of Ted’s Montana Grill, confirmed the decision on January 8, 2026. McKerrow claims that “negative feedback” on social media was a contributing factor in the company’s choice to step away from the project.

The announcement is a surprising reversal after the restaurant group had secured unanimous approval from the Marietta Historic Board of Review in September 2025. That approval covered a 4,311-square-foot building with historically inspired exterior and interior design elements intended to blend with surrounding structures on the Square.

The cancellation means the North Park Square lot will remain vacant for the foreseeable future, continuing a pattern that has stretched more than a decade. Ted’s Montana Grill would have become the company’s 12th Georgia location and its fourth within Cobb County, joining existing restaurants in East Cobb, West Cobb, and Kennesaw.

For now, the future of the site at 77 North Park Square remains uncertain, with no new development plans publicly announced following Ted’s withdrawal.
