Cobb Restaurant Report Card: Three Spots Score 63 While Local Favorites Hit 100
The latest inspection batch brought plenty of clean report cards, with local names like Dave Poe’s BBQ, Talk of the Town Catering and Special Events, and Starbucks on Whitlock Avenue all earning perfect 100s. That is the good news, the tidy side of the kitchen, the side with labels facing out and the cooler doing its job.
The rougher side of the report came from three food service operations that each scored a 63: Deli & Grill Brazilian Bakery in Marietta, El Velero Mexican Restaurant in Marietta, and Holiday Inn Express Atlanta NW Galleria Area in Smyrna. Two of those lowest scores came from Marietta kitchens, and one involved a hotel breakfast operation near the Galleria/Cumberland area.

Inspectors cited several violations, including no hand soap at hand sinks in the front service area and main kitchen, raw fish and raw chorizo stored above bottles of sauce, dishes being washed in a dishwasher that tested at 0 ppm chlorine, and several cold holding violations involving TCS foods such as wings, salsa, raw fish, soups, cheese, and pasta. Inspectors noted that all affected items were discarded and that the facility was closed due to insufficient cold holding units.
The report also noted repeat violations involving the consumer advisory and the lack of an on-site thermometer for checking internal food temperatures. El Velero previously scored a 76 on September 2, 2025, followed by a 92 during a follow up inspection on September 4, 2025.

Inspectors cited several issues, including no person in charge present for the food facility portion of the hotel, an employee handling food without first washing hands after washing dishes, food received above 41 degrees, and food contact surfaces that needed cleaning and sanitizing. The report also cited a repeat cold holding violation involving several TCS foods, including boiled eggs, cream cheese, yogurt, milk, butter cups, and liquid eggs.
A Quick Note About Inspection Scores

The Georgia Department of Public Health uses a 100-point scale to grade restaurant inspections. Scores of 90 to 100 earn an “A” and reflect excellent compliance.
