Free H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine

Cobb & Douglas Public Health is conducting an H1N1 mass Flu Clinic on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cobb County Safety Village at 1220 Al Bishop Drive, Marietta, Georgia 30008. The H1N1 flu mist will be provided at no cost. Seasonal flu vaccine will also be provided to income-eligible children 6 months through 18 years of age for $14, or to others for $25.

Based on CDC recommendations for 2009, the target group (and only group eligible) to receive the H1N1 mist is healthy 2 to 24 year-old individuals. “Our goal is to help reduce the number of flu cases by getting as many of our young people vaccinated as possible this weekend,” said Karen Thomas, District Immunization Director, Cobb & Douglas Public Health.

However, the H1N1 flu mist, which will be administered on Saturday, isn’t for everyone. Pregnant women and individuals with asthma or chronic medical conditions should receive the injectable vaccine, which is not available at this time. “While we don’t have the vaccines in yet, we do expect to receive them in the coming weeks and will make them available through our clinic locations,” said Dr Jack Kennedy, District Health Director, Cobb & Douglas Public Health.

where can I get the H1N1 vaccine for free in gwinnett county? I have been unemployed for 6 months now and struggling with bills. I want to get vaccinated so that I am physically able to continue my work search however I cannot afford to pay for the vaccine. I have contacted several places but they charge 25 for the vaccine. I have two kids age 21 & age 12 plus myself. Where can if any get the H1N1 vaccine for free?

I am 55 years old and taking Imuran (azothioprine) for auto immune hepatits. The CDC indicates I should have both the seasonal and the H1N1 shots. What is available for me?

My children, ages 7 and 10, have asthma. I have been checking the Cobb/Douglas website daily for updates on the H1N1 vaccine, and am also on a list at their pediatrician’s office should it become available there. Will any priority be given to children with asthma when the shot form of the vaccine is received? Should I bring some form of paperwork/record from their physician? I’m very concerned for my children. Both take daily medication for asthma, and become very sick with respiratory symptoms when they get just a normal cold.

I am a 32 year old mother and my husband is 28. we have a 8 month old baby. Our doctor said not to give it to her until she was 2 years old. We work around hundreds of people each day, can we get the vaccine so we dont bring it home to her.

Hi Dawn,
There has been a change in age criteria for this Saturday’s free H1N1 nasal mist. The vaccine is only available for healthy residents ages 2 to 24 years old. Previously it was announced that the vaccine would be available to those age 2-49, but it appears that they have revised the ages “based on CDC recommendations.”
