The annual Cobb International Film Festival showcases a mixture of feature length, short films, and documentaries from around the United States and other countries. Four days of films are screened during the festival, offering filmmakers at all stages of their careers a chance to showcase their work on the big screen. There are multiple genres represented, ranging from comedy, drama, action, and horror to family/child friendly films.
Since its debut in 2015, the Cobb International Film Festival has become a fixture in metro Atlanta’s arts calendar. What began as a one-day event at the historic Strand Theatre has evolved into a four-day celebration of cinematic storytelling from across the world.
The idea was first sparked in 2014 during a conversation between Dr. Richard Tavernaro of Long Shot Productions and Andy Gaines, then with the Strand Theatre. Their goal was to create a festival that would allow independent filmmakers to share their work with new audiences while giving film lovers access to titles they wouldn’t normally encounter in traditional theaters. The inaugural Marietta International Film Festival, held the following fall, screened 22 films in a single day.
In 2016, the festival doubled in size and length. A new partnership with Film Racing brought in the top 15 finalists from that global filmmaking competition. By 2017, the festival expanded its mission further by launching monthly Indie Film Nights at the Strand Theatre, giving local filmmakers a rare opportunity to see their work projected in a classic movie theater.
In 2019, the event officially rebranded into what is now the Cobb International Film Festival. The new name came with an expanded four-day format, a stronger international presence, and a full lineup of workshops and panels aimed at connecting filmmakers, actors, and audiences.
The Cobb International Film Festival is presented through a partnership between East Coast Talent Agency, Cobb Travel & Tourism, Long Shot Productions, Ltd., Film Racing, LLC, and The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre.
