Helicopter Rides at the Marietta Museum of History Aviation Wing

Get a birds-eye view of Marietta! Join the Marietta Museum of History Aviation Wing for helicopter rides offering a six to eight mile round trip aerial tour of Marietta. Up to three people can ride at a time depending on weight restrictions. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Aviation Wing.

Flights are held if weather is permitting.

Scout Shabbat

On February 12, 2016 at 7pm, Congregation Ner Tamid will host its 7th annual Scout Shabbat, celebrating Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from our congregation and surrounding areas. Services will be held at Congregation Ner Tamid, 1349 Old Hwy 41, Suite 220, Marietta GA 30060.

Boy & Girl Scouts and Scouters (BSA adult volunteers) attending this service in uniform will receive a special patch. Plan to arrive in uniform at least 30 minutes before the service to check in. After the service, there will be a Scout sponsored Oneg Shabbat.

Museum Mice Tours

The Marietta Museum of History announces new tours for the smallest of visitors! Based on programs by the Smithsonian Institute’s Early Enrichment Center, tours will be offered to toddlers from age 3 to 5 and their parents. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m.

The purpose of the tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum Mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes for the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts.

They require that you reserve a spot for your toddler by calling their office Monday-Friday from 10-4 at 770-794-5710. Reserving a spot will allow the staff to have enough items for the crafts.

Groundbreaking Improvements for U.S. Highway 41

In early December, the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID) in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, federal partners and Cobb County, broke ground on a widening project and enhancements for U.S. Highway 41 between Paces Mill and Akers Mill roads. The project, part of $53 million in improvements being advanced by the Cumberland CID, will facilitate safe and fluid transit along one of the most heavily trafficked corridors in Georgia. The road will be widened to six lanes, with a raised median and a 12-foot wide multi-use trail on the west side of the road.

Couture for Charity

Couture for Charity, a non-profit organization founded by Walton High School student Yasmin Rahimi, held its first fashion show at the Atlanta Country Club to raise funds for breast cancer research. After nine months of designing and planning, the show came together beautifully in front of a sold-out audience. The silent auction was also a huge success with donations from many great sponsors in the East Cobb community. The event raised more than $7,000 for the American Cancer Society.

The Cobb Chamber recognized 20 local companies at its December First Monday Breakfast, sponsored by Georgia Trend magazine. The Sam Olens Business Community Service Awards recognize deserving Cobb businesses for their commitment to the community and their support of Cobb’s non-profit agencies. Earlier this year, Cobb’s non-profit community was asked to nominate businesses that have enhanced the lives of all Cobb County residents through gifts of time, money and charitable donations. Honorees included Chattahoochee Technical College, Henssler Financial, The Home Depot Foundation and the WellStar Health System.

Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Honored At Leadership Conference

The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Board was recently recognized with a unique distinction at the annual Technical College System of Georgia Leadership Conference held in Savannah. Of the 24 technical college foundations, only eight have earned the distinction of being a Role Model Board. To achieve this recognition, the board accomplished various metrics as outlined by the TCSG Foundation Association as best practices. Criteria include board participation, training for the board and staff, attendance at graduation and chair fundraising events, among others.

WellStar Kennestone Hospital Receives “3 Star” Quality Rating

WellStar Health System has received a “3 Star” rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). STS has developed a comprehensive rating system for the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals. WellStar offers a cutting-edge comprehensive cardiac program, with the exception of transplant services. The WellStar cardiac program is providing a continuum of care to the patient population in northwest Georgia. The cardiac surgery program is housed at WellStar Kennestone. Additionally, Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone and Paulding hospitals are all accredited chest pain centers.
