Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act with CNC and the Wilderness Act Performance Series. Stephen Wood, Atlanta Composer, has organized an incredible celebration for the anniversary by connecting art in all forms with nature. The Wilderness Act Performance Series is a musical and artistic celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964. Through the commissioning of new music and art, this performance series builds public appreciation of the Wilderness Act’s impact on natural and cultural preservation. Forming collaboration between composers, artists and public green spaces, we will ask the questions: “How do we appreciate and connect to Earth in our current urban technological society?” and “How has the perception of wilderness changed with the growing disconnection from nature?”

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is the last stop along the series, which will be performed at five venues throughout Atlanta. The series includes photographers, poets, and composers who have gathered inspiration for their pieces directly from Chattahoochee Nature Center experiences. The artists have worked all summer to develop works themed on Forests, Wetlands, and River. The artists include Nathan Bales; Sarah Hersh; Peter Peteet; and Eric Bowles.
