My name is Christopher J Hayes - My Great Grandmother was Edna Maude Schilling 2/17/1891- 12/16/1973, she was married to Henry Clifton Lovelace, at St James Episcopal Church in Marietta. My Grandmother is their youngest daughter is Cecile Lovelace born in 1923 and currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. She married James Alexander Denny and they had my mother Diane Cecile Denny in 1951.

One of my mother's favorite pictures and fondest memories is of her grandmother holding me when I was a newborn before she died that same year.

I just finished a trip south visiting family on my dad's side in Powder Springs My mom and I decided to go visit Marietta and the Schilling sites. We went to Schillings on the Square, the restaurant where the store used to be.
We drove by The old Post office where Great uncle Walter was postmaster, I saw a picture of him standing in front, now a museum and closed while I was visiting. The picture is part of the Georgia Archives.
We found the former Schilling residence on Washington Street and went to the St. James Cemetery on Polk, where most of the family is buried.
It is nice that these places still exist and that is what makes Marietta a charming place, that has not forgotten its history.

My name is Stephen Johnson - born 1950. My parents are William W & Yvonne Schilling Johnson. My mother is the daughter of Clarence Leon Schilling & Yvonne Morillion

My mother was born 10/17/22 & had a sister Suzanne Schilling Doughtie (decsd)

Both my parent are alive

I am a big fan of Marietta and its' history. - frequently visiting the battlefields & Shillings restaurant
The spelling was changed due to a dispute with Aunt Margaret ( Harold's widow) not wanting to be associated with an establishment that served alcohol! So they out foxxed the ol girl. While they changed the spelling the old original tile in front of the store still has the Schilling name displayed.

I remember going there as a kid & actually buying my 1st baseball glove from one of Clarence;s brothers

I am married to Helen Gunn from Decatur. We have a daughter, Catherine age 26. Catherine is an RN at Northside Hospital in Sandy Springs

I was born in Marietta in 1933 of parents Frederick E.A. Schilling, Jr and Kate Barker Schilling. My real name is Frederick E. A. Schilling III. I am a graduate of Marietta High and Georgia Tech. My father owned with his brother Harold, Schillings Hardware Store where Schillings Restaurant is now located. I lived in Marietta until Dec 31, 1967 when I moved to Richland, Washington and in 1970 I moved to my present home in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. My cousin, Madge, daughter of Walter Schilling postmaster of Marietta for many years, is in her 90's and is the only Schilling presently in Marietta. I really enjoy your website which keeps me up to date on what's going on back in the old hometown. I thought you would appreciate hearing from an old Mariettan who still misses Cobb County and appreciates your web site. Regards, Tony
