Established on December 19, 1843, Marietta Georgia is located in central Cobb County just 15 miles northwest of Atlanta and just south of the North Georgia Mountains. Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is just 30 minutes south of Marietta. Cobb County was named after Thomas Willis Cobb, a United States Representative, United States Senator, and Georgia Supreme Court Judge. The city of Marietta was named for Cobb's Wife - Mary Cobb. Marietta's current population is just over 60,000.
